Remarks: August 27th at 6:00 p.m. the Eye Bank has a meeting…The Camp’s next finance meeting date is August 24th… The USA-CANADA Forum will be in Fort Worth September 27-28. President Max will be taking his motor home. He’ll have extra room for anyone interested. The annual Chicken Charbroil will be on October 10th and 11th. Lion Bryan Self will be the CCB lead-chairman and Lion Robert Schwartz and members will be assisting. The cooking pits at The Forum cooking site needs some new cinder blocks – call Lion Bryan. Program: Lion Ed Ball introduced Mr. Lawrence Guidry, Executive Director of the Caddo Community Action Agency. Lawrence worked in the Governor Buddy Roemer administration and when Buddy was in Congress. Lawrence also brought a contribution from Lion James Rhodes (Summer/Shady Grove) for the Tailtwisting – James was in a meeting with today’s speaker this morning. CCAA is one of the largest employers in the area and has a budget of over $12 million in taxpayer funds. CCAA’s shining star is Head Start which is rated 15 points higher then its nearest program comparison. There are nearly 1,500 young kids in the Head Start program. The care for these kids actually starts once a mom is pregnant --- they give support to the mom to help reduce the likelihood of any problems with baby deliveries so they can have a better opportunity in life….Lawrence mentioned the crack babies in the Neonatal nursery at LSU Health and Sciences Center and the low cost of education as opposed to the high cost for incarceration. CCAA also helps folks with problems paying their needed energy utilities…There are many programs offered by CCAA. No website at this point but you can email Lawrence at:
guidroy@iamerica.net. Incidentally, CCAA receives its funding through the Caddo Parish Commission, U. S. Dept of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of Energy, U.S. Housing and Urban and Development, Louisiana Department of Social Services and several more – thanks Lawrence for your commitment to our community.Ticket Drawings: $5.00 red ticket winners were: Lions Libby Gleason and Stuart Reeks.
