February 26th – Lion Jimmie Giles will have
someone from the Naval Museum in Arcadia.
March 4th – Lion Oscar Smith will present
a pharmaceutical representative.
NOTES/Remarks:
- Eye Foundation Board Meeting on February 28th
in New Orleans. Tours will be conducted
for those in attendance. Contact
Lion Gloria.
- March 6th – Mid-winter Conference at
the LSU-S Library.
- March 13th the Summer Grove Club will
have a Cub Sight Screening at South Park Mall – Assistance is needed. It will be at the old J.C. Penney’s.
- Lions Scott Harkey and Patricia Schwartz will
be heading up the Irish Auction for 2004.
It will be on March 19th at Sword Sports on North Market.
We need lots of people to participate and need lots of items to be
auctioned. Please acquire items with a value of at
least $50 each. Smaller items can
still be used as door prizes.
- Lion Stuart Reeks will
be the Rose Day chairperson. The
date will be May 7th – please calendar it sell roses and come
help to deliver.
- A reception is being planned for March 21st
at the State Exhibit Museum. The
guest will be the granddaughter of Helen Keller. Please plan to attend and show our appreciation
for her traveling to Shreveport. More details available later.

relatively short quick session was held with lots of fun.
Program: Lion Stuart Reeks introduced Shreveport
Fire Department Assistant-to-the-Chief Brian Crawford. Brian gave a detailed run-down on the happenings
of SFD. Very shortly, the new station
on North Common Street will open and the current Station #1 will re-locate
to the new building. The current station
will hopefully be converted into a museum with state funding assistance. There
are currently 21 fire stations with 8 EMS units. He explained why EMS calls
are first responded to by pumper trucks – there are more of them and they
usually only have one and a half miles to travel, so they beat the EMS units
since there are a fewer number of them. Most
all trucks have EMTs at the Paramedic Level. Over 3,000 false alarms were
responded to last year. The current fire station was built during the horse-drawn
days – that is why the stair case is circular --- so the horses wouldn’t go
upstairs. The best news – Shreveport is one of the top “Class 1” rated
fire stations in the nation – for both fire and EMS. We are only one of eight which also has EMS
responsibilities. Thanks to Brian for a great presentation.
