Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety”

March 6, 2003

Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Charles Smith; Pledge: Lion Kevin Anderson; First Verse: Lion Jerry Paige with Lion PDG Jimmie Giles playing the cymbals. And a rousing rendition it was. Lion Jimmie knows how to sound the cymbals.

Visitors: We had no visitors today.

NOTES/Remarks: Next Cubsight Screening will be Thursday, March 13th at 9:00 a.m. It will be held at The American Child Daycare near the intersection of Youree and Washington. Lion Robert reported that we have enough volunteers for this screening but call him if you can work. If he needs you he will tell you so at that time.

THE APRIL 10TH REGULAR MEETING WILL BE HELD AT NORTHWOOD HIGH SCHOOL.
We will pay for our own lunches as usual, but this will help us to meet our 59 NHS Leo Club Members.

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau got the usual late fines for the Prez starting the meeting late and then he got some members for being late. They were Lion PDG Bryan Self, Lion Alan Yokum and Lion Bill Alexander. The TT had declared today as "Wear Your Vest Day" and fined several of us who did not don our vest for the day. Other fines were given to Lion Kevin Anderson because of the confusion that reigned when he did not tell us which hand to use to place over our hearts during the Pledge. After fining serveral Lions during the question and answer part of his program, Lion Bill Arcxhambeau, TT, read a joke submitted by Lion Jerry Paige then opened the floor for jokes from several members, none of which were memorable. However Lion Bill Alexander told a true story about some of his church work and sweet little old ladies that brought the house down.

Program:  Lion Bill Archambeau introduced Representative Buddy Shaw. Rep. Shaw represents District six. He is serving his second term and will be on the ballot for a third term. He gave a very interesting and informative speech on how the Legislature of the State is run and why it is so hard for North La. to get bills passed that would be to our benefit. It seems the Governor in realty names the Speaker of the House and the President of the Senate. South Louisiana's all. He also stated that in the recent election the people passed an admendment that would give the Governor the ability to cut funds across the board but somehow it reads these these funds are only the Dedicated Funds. As Higher Education and Health and Welfare are not dedicated funds, he cut the Nursing Home Funds 37% instantly. This speaker was well informed and then informed the audience. It is a shame that we did not have more members present to hear him.

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Speaker Rep. Buddy Shaw and Lion PDG Bud Byrd.

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Stu Reed got the chance and pulled a ten of something but no QUEEN. The money is beginning to get bigger and better.

Attendance Prize:  Lion Stu Reeks had his name pulled by the speaker and of course he was in attendance. We start over with $10.00 next week.
