March 20, 2003

Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Jimmie Giles; Pledge: Lion Oscar Smith; First Verse: Lion Gene Bacon with Lion Jimmie Giles playing the cymbals.

Visitors: Mr. Jason Hodges visiting with Lion Mike Middleton; Lion Gloria Kennedy had visiting with her Aunt Maynell Whitney from Jonesboro, Maine.

NOTES/Remarks: Lion Stuart Reeks has the program next week – a mystery speaker

The April 10th regular meeting will be held at Northwood High School.

We will pay for our own lunches as usual, but, this will help us to meet our 59 NHS Leo Club members. WE NEED TO PROVIDE AN EXACT HEADCOUNT BY MARCH 27TH – LET THE PRESIDENT KNOW IF YOU WILL ATTEND.

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau fined several for being late – Lions Patricia Schwartz, Bryan Self, Pete Copes, Larry LaBorde, Bill Alexander and Garry Lipscomb.  Rag Editor Lion Mike Middleton was fined for not ensuring members got a Rag for the last two weeks – sorry folks – I was out-of-town and one week was for a funeral – but, I’M BACK!!!  Lion Gene Bacon’s hand was called for reading a joke at the top of the meeting rather than waiting for the TT’s time.  Lion Jimmie Giles was corrected for playing the cymbals without being signaled to play by Lion Gene. Trivia questions took up the rest of the great session.

Program:  Lion Jerry Paige introduced a March of Dimes volunteer -- Ms. Gail Rains, Director of Patient Services at Shriners Hospital. The March of Dimes helps save babies from premature birth and other health threats.  Premature birth affects more than 460,000 babies in the U.S. every year – the Shreveport area has the highest number of incidences for all the state. The upcoming March of Dimes WalkAmerica functions will be held on these dates: April 5 – Springhill; April 12 – Many; and April 26th – Shreveport.  To participate, call 318.869.0400 or toll-free 866.508.2333.  The website for the walk is www.walkamerica.org.  General information about MOD is available at www.marchofdimes.com.  Companies and groups are certainly welcomed to participate.  Hints for healthy babies: *See a health care provider before and during pregnancy; *Don’t drink, smoke or use drugs and avoid secondhand smoke; *Learn the signs of pre-term labor and what to do if it happens to you.

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Steve Davitt  and Larry LaBorde.
