 April 17, 2003

Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Jim Peck; Pledge: Lion Steve Davitt; First Verse: Lion Bryan with Lion Jimmie Giles playing the cymbals….

NEXT WEEK PROGRAM :  A surprise from Lion Bud.

Visitors: Summer Grove Lion Cindy Fortson, a guest of Lion Paul Little.

NOTES/Remarks:

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau had Lion Oscar Smith holding the fine-pot.  Lions Pete Copes and Kevin Anderson were both fined for late arrivals to the meeting. The Prez was fined for the usual late meeting start and 1VP Stuart Reeks was fined for not wearing a coat and tie.  For the most part, the fines were derived from the trivia questions as well as all members who did not attend the Northwood High School Leo’s meeting last week.  Another good session which was benefited by a joke and a word of inspiration from Lion Jimmie Giles.

Program:  Lion Craig Kennedy introduced Mr. Jim Mabus, Workforce Development Manager for the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce.  Jim noted our major employers as being in these fields: Manufacturing, government, hospitality, medical and commercial real estate and retail in general.  Some of our major private employers: General Motors, Fry Master and off-shoots from the GM expansion….Jim is working closely with the local colleges and the Vo-Tech to learn of what training resources are in use and what can be added for future growth.  Remember the days of oil & gas == now replaced by the hospitality industry.  Jim gave a lot of good information.
