NEXT WEEK PROGRAM: Lion Bud Byrd will have a member of VOA as our speaker. This should be a very informative program. Don't TRY to be at the meeting, Just BE THERE.

NOTES/Remarks:
Tailtwisting: Lion TT Bill Archambeau had Lion Gabby Garbarino holding the fine-pot. Lions Alan Yokem and Bryan Self were both fined for late arrivals to the meeting. He then handed out fines for incorrect addresses on the Rose delivery tickets. Lion Jerry Paige was fined for wearing a good looking suit but no Lions pin and Lion Robert Schwartz because he and Lion Pat can't seem to get to the meetings on the same day. Lion Robert responded that it was the give and take of married life. Lion Gloria bought a picture from the TT instead of it being passed around to all members present. Then we were onto our educational (?) questions and a lot of fun and fines in sued.
Program: Lion Oscar Smith introduced Ms. Nijera Canara, from Alliance for Education. She gave us a through overview of what this program is about. Their mission is CREATING A REAL COMMUNITY - Education Partnership. Dr. Philip Rozeman brought the concept to Shreveport from Seattle. The program is for the development of educators as well as students. They have a 40 member board and a 10 member Executive Board. The program is supported by Grants and donations from businesses and individuals. At the present they have eight programs. They are: After School Academies, aimed at providing resources for inner city, rural and middle income neighborhood schools to establish After School Academies to improve student achievement through increased instruction time. Character Counts: A project to help children learn to resolve conflicts, strengthen positive character traits and build self-discipline. Good Neighbor Project: Designed to break down the walls of isolationism between schools. Leadership Institute: Developed with educators in mind the institute represents a collaborative effort between the Alliance for Education and the local school systems to enhance the professional development of teachers and principals. Mini-Grant Program: The Alliance provides funding for innovative and creative classroom projects that academic excellence. The others are: Paths to Excellence, Project Weather Watch and Walk for Education. A very good program. Our club had at one time the Alliance as a possibility of receiving funds as a part of our Community Needs Funds.
Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Hubert Gleason and Gabby Garbarina.
BLUE TICKET: Lion Alan Yokem pulled a card for the Queen of Hearts but got a King of Clubs instead.
Attendance Prize: Lion BUd Byrd was present and won.
