Opening: Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Jim Peck; Pledge: Lion Libby Gleason, Leading the song was Lion Hubert Gleason with Lion Robbie Raiford on the piano with Lion Jimmie Giles playing the cymbals.

Next week’s program: Lion Pete Copes is the program chairman for next week and he will surprise us.

Visitors: Visiting with Lion Jimmie Giles was his (older/younger) brother, Jack Giles.

NOTES/Remarks:

• Big Bass Rodeo is coming up in latter September.  We will have the boat here June 20-22 and we will need members to sell lots of $1.00 raffle tickets – probably at Lowe’s Home Center on Mansfield Road.  Lion Gloria Kennedy is asking for someone to “head-up” getting volunteers to sell the tickets.  Everyone should make an effort to attend the Rodeo.
• The installation banquet will be on June 26^th at 6:30 p.m. at Don’s Seafood.  We need a headcount and remember if you commit to it, then you will be responsible to pay whether or not you attend.  The cost is $17.00 per person.
• Lion Patricia Schwartz noted that Northwood graduating senior Keven Belcher is this year’s recipient of a $500 scholarship from the NSLC.  Unfortunately, no one applied from Green Oaks.  The teacher of the year selection is pending.
• Lion Mike Middleton was given the floor to conduct a vote on the 2003-2004 NSLC Board.  Lion Jimmie Giles made a motion to accept the ballot (as printed below) and it was seconded by Lion Steve Davitt.  The members in attendance voted unanimously to accept this list as our officers.  Congratulations to all the Board Members and to the club for having such quality members.

Tailtwisting: Lion TT Bill Archambeau went into action with Lion Gabby Garbarino handling the pot.  The Prez was fined for starting the meeting late and several members who would have been late were also fined.  Lion Robert Schwartz was fined for being way late.  Then, Who Wants to be a Millionaire questions were asked and they were pretty easy at $100 level.  Lots of good “life-lines” were able to reward the TT because of their desire for volunteerism and excellent teamwork for members in-need.

Program: Lion Steve Davitt introduced General Peyton Cole, USAF – Retired.  He may be retired but as we witnessed during the recent Iraq War (and today’s meeting), he stays up-to-date on what is going on in the military, the world and with the B-52s.  The General gave a lot of great information on the abilities of the B-52 and its weaponry…  Before his 1994 retirement, he led two B-52s around the world, non-stop during a 48-hour mission of demonstration where they dropped 51 – 500 pounds by each aircraft on land in Kuwait.  It required 5 aerial refuelings and the oil consumption for the two airplanes was only about 50 gallons.  General Cole’s father was a USAF General.  General Cole, a 1967 graduate of the USAF Academy, has two children serving active duty as 2^nd Lieutenants – one in missile launching and one directing maintenance of a C-17 squadron.  Regarding the recent Iraq War, the General noted validation of several points: (1) The armed forces can work together well; (2) Our troops have excellent training and are very well disciplined; (3) Speed kills (the rapid aggression that prevailed by our forces); (4) It is a plus to “control the air”; (5) The final war has to be on the ground to call it a win…..  Thanks Steve for bringing General Cole!

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Bob Allen and visitor Jack Giles.

BLUE TICKET: Lion Patricia Schwartz got to try to pick the Queen of Hearts.

Attendance Prize: Lion Rubye Davitt was present and got $10.00 for the second time in two weeks – according to the Prez, a probable historic occurrence for it to happen consecutively for two weeks and the winner was present.

MAJOR PROJECTS: Louisiana Lions Childrens’ Camp, LSU Lions’ Eye Foundation, Northwest Louisiana Eye Bank, Louisiana Association for the Blind, Northwood High School Leo Club, Scholarships for Northwood and Green Oaks High Schools
