PROGRAM:   Lion Libby Gleason presented Mr. Mark-Andre’ Bougie, Education Director (native of Montreal), of the Shreveport Opera XpressSOX.  He is both a composer and conductor.  His main job is educating young people about opera and attends many local public schools.  He and four other singers do mini-concerts featuring classic fairy tales.  They are on their sixth season in introducing young people to opera.  Future operas in the schools include anti-smoking material and also anti-littering.  Several touring opera companies (Broadway types) will be traveling through Shreveport in the next year.  They presented 120 programs in the schools last year and reached over 50,000 young people.  Their website is: http://www.shreveopera.org/ and click on “SOX”.  This seems to be a really great, worthwhile program – Check it out.
