The Changing of the Guard: Lion Stuart Reeks, outgoing Lion
President, and Lion Patricia Schwartz, incoming Lion President
Lion President Patricia Schwartz North
The
opening segment of the Banquet went great.
Lion Jim Peck did the
Invocation. Lion Robert Schwartz did an excellent job in leading the Pledge
of Allegiance. Lion Scott Harkey led the club in the first verse of
Lion Patricia received her President’s pin and in-turn gave the Past-President’s pin to Lion Stuart Reeks. Lion Stuart had a great year as President. From the many comments of the club’s officers and Patricia, he did a wonderful job. One of the most noticeable is how he asked permission for purchasing table skirting to “spruce up” the room. He got it and all the members appreciate the new look. He also headed up the Rose Day fundraiser. We appreciate all you did Past-President Reeks - now, lots more of handshaking to go as our newest official greeter.
The NSLC inductees of the Melvin Jones Fellowship were recognized at the Banquet. Congratulations to Lions Russ Peterson and Stuart Reeks. We appreciate your NSLC membership and your devotion to the Club.
Other activities included a great tailtwisting in which the distinguished Lion TT Bill Archambeau, allowed each Lion to say whatever they wanted about their guest in attendance. If the TT or members didn’t think they did a good job, then Lion Oscar Smith would hold them over the fine-pot. Some comments included:
Lion Bud Byrd about his wife, Lion Nita Byrd: He is proud of being married to the same wonderful lady for over 40 years – Lion Nita mentioned how “opposites attract” is definitely true with them, as Bud likes to talk and she is more reserved – She deserves a gold medal. Lion David Smith said of his wife, Susie: She is a God-send and keeps him humble.
Lions Hubert and Libby Gleason – (Him)
Been married over 50 years; (her) it’s over 51 years. Lion
Russ Peterson about his wife, Mary
Helen: …been married over 20 years and have 19 grandchildren – most of them
are hers. It seems he likes having her
to tell him what to do. Lions Patricia and Robert Schwartz: (Him) He has known her for over 25 years and
have now been married over 3 ½ years. He
is the luckiest man on the face of the earth and doesn’t know what he’d do
without her; (Her) She moved to
Lion Scott Harkey about his daughter, E.D.: Her arrival in this world was a wonderful event – she was two months early and arrived four days before his birthday. Lion Jim Peck about his wife, Cathryn: They met at a fundraiser and they have been together since the eleventh grade. Lion Kevin Anderson commenting on wife, Cathy: We’ve been married for two years and there are NO complaints. Lion Jerry Paige and Beverly: She keeps him straight and where he is lacking on computer skills, she helps him. Lion Alan Yokem about wife, Kelly: Their twins are now a year old and the twins wake about 7:00 a.m., Kelly gets up about 8:00 a.m. and lastly recorded: Lion Merle Gore introduced his wife, Carol and together they have a thirteen year old son.
The TT made a few other fines for the usual minor infractions. This was one of the best sessions of the Lions year – any time we can meet our members and their families in a setting such as this.
Other activities of the evening included Lion Stuart’s comments about our departing member, Lion Ed Stevenson. We’ll definitely miss his many contributions to the club and we hope him and Faye the best-of-luck in their relocation. Lion Nita Byrd was thanked for the beautiful table arrangements; Lion Patricia for her banquet preparations and Lion Hubert for furnishing placemats.
The club was introduced to our two new college scholarship recipients. Both of them thanked the club and we wish them the best-of-luck. They are Miss Robyn Harper from Green Oaks and Miss Andrea Morris of Northwood – Congrats!
Certificates of Appreciation were issued to the following project chairs: Lions Patrcia Schwartz (Irish Auction); Mike Middleton and Merle Gore (Chicken Charbroil); Hubert Gleason (Fruits and Nuts); Scott Harkey (Shreveport Police Department’s Appreciation Banquet); Stuart Reeks & Merle Gore (Rose Day). Recognition was given tonight to the Club’s Officers and their fine work for the outgoing year.
