July 1, 2004

Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Stuart Reeks; Prayer: Lion Jimmie Giles; Pledge: Lion Ed Ball; Song: Lion Robert Schwartz and Lion Jimmie Giles sounding the cymbals.

PRAYERS:  The prayer was especially for all members who were not present today.

NEXT WEEK:  ???

VISITING:  No visitors were in attendance today.

NOTES/Remarks:

Tailtwisting:  Lion Archambeau kept us entertained with Lion Paul Little “breaking legs.” He first fined PDG Hubert Gleason for missing the Installation Banquet for the first time in remembrance (“jet lag”).   A few were fined for arriving late: Lions Oscar Smith and Kevin Anderson.  The Birthday Song was “sang” to Lions Hubert Gleason, Patricia Schwartz, Ed Stevenson and Ruby Davitt (in June).  Lion Paul Little and Martha are celebrating their 54th anniversary --- Lions Steve and Rubye Davitt also recently celebrated their anniversary.

Program:  Lion Jerry Paige introduced Ms. Ollie Tyler, Caddo Parish Schools Superintendent.  She can also now be recognized as Lion Tyler, as she was inducted into the South Shreveport Club on Wednesday.  Lion Tyler revealed a framed “Mission Statement” which has been ordered to be present in every classroom in the system.  She subscribe to “not leaving a child behind”.

Priority Goals I – “Raise the level of the educational program and student performance:  Raise the level of accountability to focus on results and attention to detail.”  Priority Goal II: Recruit, train, evaluate and retain high quality staff.  priority III: Coordinate and deliver efficient and effective administrative support functions aligned with school-based needs. Priority IV: Expand family, community and school connections: Create a high level of expectations for parental/guardian and community participation in student learning…Lion Tyler gave to those in attendance today a 12-page “Semi-Annual Report”.  I’m sure the same information is available at www.caddopublicschools.com.   She gave so much information today that is positive about what is going on in the schools.  A few special notes: Caddo Parish has seven “Blue Ribbon” schools and we have top academic performers in the state -- #1 elementary; #1 & #2 middle school; and #2 high school.  This was a great program and sorry those who were not here missed such a great program.

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Bill Archambeau and Lion Charlie Smith.

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Hubert Gleason failed to pull the Queen for the $96.50 pot.

Attendance Prize: Lion Mary Howe was not present to collect the pot.
