Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Stuart Reeks; Prayer: Lion Chaplain Jim Peck; Pledge: Lion Oscar Smith; Song: Lion Hubert Gleason, Lion Robbie Raiford on the piano and Lion Jimmie Giles sounding the cymbals.  Lion Hubert Gleason “loaned” a swagger stick to be used as our song baton – however, ownership rights will be retained to Lion Libby Gleason for future “internment rights.”

 

PRAYERS:  Lion Charlie Smith is having some congestion --- we miss you!!!

VISITING:  Lion Paul Little and Martha; Lion Oscar Smith had co-workers: Ms. Mary Murphy and Kay Thomson; Ms. Sarah Tooke accompanied today’s speaker

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

¨      Several housekeeping duties were accomplished at yesterday’s Board Meeting, including, the 2004-2005 Budget was passed

¨      PDG Craig Kennedy noted the Grand Cane Club will have their Charter Meeting tonight (7/15) at 6:00 p.m…..PDG2 Paul Little noted that the new Greenwood Club will have their Charter Meeting on Tuesday, July 20th at Angelina Restaurant in Greenwood on 70th Street ---  BOTH PDGs are asking for NSLC members to attend these meetings if at all possible.

¨      This Saturday – July 17th from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Blanchard Town Hall – will be the 60th Wedding Anniversary for Lion Ed and Faye Stevenson.  No gifts are needed and dress casually.  It will also be Ed’s 80th birthday celebration.

¨      This Saturday will be the District Governor’s training session at the 1st Baptist Church of Natchitoches (on Second Street) at 1:00 p.m.

¨      2nd VP Patricia Schwartz is strongly urging everyone to sign-up for a date to be responsible for providing speakers.

¨      On July 31st from 8:30-10:00 a.m., the YMCA has invited club members to a reception and information meeting at Camp Forbing – all NSLC members are invited.

 

Tailtwisting:  Lion Archambeau got a few for being late and several (including himself) for missing yesterday’s Board Meeting. Lion Paul Little served as “the collector”. Lion Bryan Self paid his 10%+ for winning last week’s attendance prize.  Then lots of trivia questions – some about Elvis.

 

PROGRAM: Lion Patricia Schwartz introduced Mr. Larry Russo, Chair for the local United Way.  Along with a new video, Larry pitched the continuing need to support the United Way.  His goal is to further penetrate to the public the information about what their funds help to support – and it is all local.  The UW is also working on helping other community projects.  The UW wants to help orchestrate all the local community initiatives and the service organizations to working better together – better harmony!!!  Assisting others through fundraising and collaboration efforts within our local community.  Their website is: www.unitedway-nwla.org.

 

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Pete Copes (for Robbie) and Lion Larry LaBorde.

 

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Pete Copes failed to pull the Queen for the $75 pot.

 

Attendance Prize: Lion John Manno, Sr. was not present to collect the $10 pot.

 

MAJOR PROJECTS: Louisiana Lions Childrens’ Camp, LSU Lions’ Eye Foundation, Northwest Louisiana Eye Bank, Louisiana Association for the Blind, Northwood High School Leo Club, Scholarships for Northwood and Green Oaks High Schools
