"Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety"
July 25, 2002
Opening: At the request of President Max Lipscomb, Lion Charlie Smith thanked the Lord for all HIS many blessings and the meal. Remembered in the Prayer was Lion Jimmie Giles and wife, Betty. Lion Gabby Garbarino led the Pledge of Allegiance. Leading us in the First Verse was Lion Craig Kennedy, along with Lion Gabby on the cymbals.
Visitors: Lion Bill Alexander had as his guest his son, Brannon. Lion Steve Davitt had with him wife, Rubye. Along with Lions Robert and Patricia Schwartz was Patricia’s daughter, Christy Buckner. A BIG WELCOME TO OUR THREE GUESTS!
Remarks: The Lion Governor’s first cabinet and training meeting is upcoming. The Prez passed the Gov’s letter around for reading…Lion Mike Middleton thanked Lion Kevin Anderson for his diligence in getting the newsletter onto the internet page. We about have all the bugs worked out – thanks for your patience.
Tailtwisting: A few fines for lateness (Lions Oscar and Pete). Lion Bill Alexander asked for a $1.00 fine on the holder of his Lion badge – it was the Twister himself who accidentally picked up Lion Alexander’s badge. They swapped back to their own badges and then Lion Alexander informed the Twister that he, the Twister, keeps referring to Lion Alexander as BA#3. As it turns out, Lion Bill Alexander’s badge has "#1" and the Twister’s badge has "#3"… The Twister even tried getting on the trivia contest our guest Brannon Alexander – however, Brannon knew that the month of July is named after Julius Caesar. Most of the answers today were correct – but at times a little too long in the jury phase – FINE! Thanks Lion Bill Archambeau for the fun time.
Program: Lion Patricia Schwartz introduced from the Shreveport Fire Department, Captain Mike Cook and Dr. Derrel Graham, the SFD EMS Medical Director. The two spoke on the "fine" Shreveport Fire Department – a "Class 1" fire department in many ways. New fire stations and equipment – including rescue/patrol boats – are on the way. SFD responds to needs nearly 40,000 times a year – most of them being EMS medical care… Everyone who is a Paramedic or EMT can also fight fires – they are all dually trained at a minimum… The SFD has developed the PAL – Public Assistance Link. The objective is to help the community to learn more about injury prevention and for some folks to let the SFD know of needs by some in the community. Captain Cook is also part of the safety clown routine – "ZIP" AND "ZAP" – they promote safety for children – and it works! In reference to dehydration: Dr. Graham told everyone to monitor their own body’s actions – particularly urination. If you are not urinating, you probably need to get inside, rest and drink more water………………..Next week: Lion Gloria Kennedy will be sponsoring the program speaker.
