Opening:  Presiding: 1st Vice-President Lion Patrica Schwartz; Prayer: Lion Jimmie Giles; Pledge: Lion Robbie Raiford; Song: Lion Bud Byrd, Lion Robbie Raiford on the piano and Lion Jimmie Giles sounding the cymbals. 

 

PRAYERS:  The Club and all of its members who were not present.

 

NEXT WEEK:  Darrell Rebouche’ , News Director, KTAL-TV. For 8/26th, Ms. Roxanne Johnson, Executive Director of the YWCA.

 

VISITING:  A great crowd of 32 members and guests Lion Cindy Fortson again had her son, Korey and co-worker, Mr. Eric Hudson.  Lion Ed Ball introduced Mr. Don Walker of The Shreveport Times.  Lion Robbie Raiford introduced her daughter, Ms. Patti Lann.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

 

BOARD MEETING: NEXT WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 11TH AT 12:00 NOON

 

¨      PDG Bud Byrd officially inducted Lions Ed Ball and Ed Stevenson into the Melvin Jones Fellowship.

¨      To date, over $800 in contributions have been made in Lion PDG Craig Kennedy’s name.

¨      August 21st thru 22nd the Eye Foundation will hold its meeting in Alexandria.  OUR OWN – LION GLORIA KENNEDY WILL BE INSTALLED AS THE FOUNDATION’S PRESIDENT.

¨      LION PDG Bud Byrd and wife, Nita Byrd have been inducted into the Louisiana Lions Childrens’ Camp Hall of Fame.  Congrats!!!

¨      Lion Mike Middleton married Ms. Ellen Tippett last Saturday, July 31st.  Ellen is a surgical nurse for eye retinal specialist Dr. Charles Lyon. 

¨      Thomas and Emily Yokem were born on June 21st at 8:00 a.m. to Lion Alan and Kelly Yokem

¨      Grandchildren:  Lion Patricia Schwartz is in line to have 3 grandchildren under 6 months of age.  Lion Cindy Fortson has 2 young grands…. Congrats to all!!

¨      The BIG BASS RODEO will be the last Saturday in September.

 

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Archambeau and Lion Bryan Self got a few for being late and the birthday song was sung for Lions Steve Davitt, Russ Peterson, Robbie Raiford, Gloria Kennedy and Larry LaBorde.  The TT had a new offering of trivia today: Questions concerning local history – it was enlightening and fun.

 

PROGRAM: Lion Libby Gleason introduced Shreveport City Council Mike Gibson.  He gave general information on what is going on in city government.  The major topic was how the city is working to acquire a hotel to be associated with the new convention center.  He challenges some of the “numbers” being provided for the future use of the convention center once it is completed.  He suggests that the citizenry hold the Council and the Mayor to answer the tough questions to ensure we don’t over commit the City’s resources in order to acquire a new hotel.  It was a really informative presentation.

 

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Jerry Paige and Harold Wright.  

 

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Bryan Self failed to pull the Queen for the $143.50 pot.

 

ATTENDANCE: Lion Libby Gleason won the attendance prize.
