Opening: Lion Charlie Smith thanked The Lord for His many blessings and asked for a caring hand to be placed on the sick. President Max Lipscomb then had (just coming in the door) Lion Alan Yokem to lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Finally, Lion Bud Byrd led the club in the First Verse of America with Lion Gabby Garbarino working the cymbals.
Visitors: Lion Steve Davitt had along with him his wife, Rubye. WELCOME!
Remarks: Lion Steve Davitt noted the updating of the Jones-Fellow Awards plaque – thanks Steve. Upcoming events/dates: Next Wednesday – August 14, 2002 at 12:00 noon the North Shreveport Lions Club will have its monthly Board Meeting – Please be here! August 10th at 1:00 p.m., the Eye Foundation will have a meeting in Hammond and all is invited…. August 27th the Eye Bank has a meeting…The Camp’s next meeting date is August 24th… The USA-CANADA Forum will be in Fort Worth September 27-28. President Max will be taking his motor home. He’ll have extra room for anyone interested.
Tailtwisting: Two more birthdays were recognized: Lions Steve Davitt and Larry LaBorde. Tailtwister Archambeau then recognized Lion Steve Davitt for an article in a local paper about his patriotic involvement actions… Several late-comers were fined for being tardy… The trivia questions were a little more difficult so this week’s Twister’s budget is bound to be bountiful…
Program: Lion Bill Spickerman introduced Mr. Sam Jenkins, a candidate for City Council District "G". He is a life-long Shreveport resident and has lived a long time in District "G". The speaker gave to us his background and his thoughts on the needs of Shreveport.
Ticket Drawings: $5.00 red ticket winners were: Lions Ed Ball won both of them,
Attendance Prize: 24 members and one guest plus the speaker were in today’s meeting. The attendance prize would have been Lion John Manno, Sr.
Blue Ticket Drawer: Lion Bill Alexander drew the 8 of hearts --- next week the prize will be almost $200.
