PRAYERS:  All Lions present and absent.

 

VISITING:  Lion Alan Yokem brought Joe Partain; Lion Paul Little was accompanied by “Red”.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • Yesterday’s Board Meeting – slim attendance – items discussed:
  • Chicken Charbroil (10/6-7) if you know any restaurants which will donate the packets with fork, knife, spoon, salt, pepper and napkin we’ll save $$$$... It will be okay if we have several suppliers – they don’t have to match (Lion Mike)
  • Chimp Haven is constructing a walkway which will be user-friendly for visually impaired and NSLC is kicking in $50.00
  • North Highlands Elementary August 15 @ 7:45 a.m. – some members will be there to help guide the young kids and parents to their rooms
  • August 20th & 21st – The Big Bass Rodeo prize boat will be at Lowe’s on Mansfield Road – Please sign-up to help sell tickets.
  • September 9th – 11th -- The 8-L Fall Conference is at the Holiday Inn – Bossier.  PDG Jimmie Giles reminded everyone that we need at least 125 people for the conference’s banquet in order to fulfill all International requisites.
  • September 24th – The Big Bass Rodeo
  • We’ll continue working to find help for Angel Flight

 

Tailtwisting:  Lion fill-in TT Hubert Gleason anointed Lion Ed Ball to work the pot.  He got several for late fines; and he was in his old form without missing a beat – he attacked most people in attendance and it was great fun….. Lion Larry LaBorde tried opting out for having the birthday song sung – he lost;  We also sang Happy BD to Ms. Martha Little

 

PROGRAM:   Lion Oscar Smith introduced Meterologist Mark Frazier of the National Weather Service.  Mark presented National Weather Service Initiatives – Working Together to Save Lives.  He is in his 15th year with the NWS.  Nationwide, the NWS has less than 150 offices and employ less than 5,000.  The Shreveport office has 23 people employed which in addition to clerical/support staff, they have forecasters, Hydrometeorological Technicians and lots of high tech equipment and data information.  Radio-balloons are released from Shreveport twice each day and they measure the atmosphere up to 50,000 feet.  They have some really great internet availability including www.srh.noaa.gov/ridge .  These are the folks who educate people to become weather spotters.  They also do on-site storm assessments to determine what type of winds damage property– tornado or straight-line.  Try surfing at www.srh.weather.gov for great information.  Mark’s contact information is 318.636.3494x223

           

Ticket Drawings: The $5.00 red ticket winners were: Lion-potential Joe Partain and Lion Libby Gleason.

 

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Pete Copes  failed to pull the winning Queen for $163.50.
