We, the North Shreveport Lions, extend our heartfelt sympathy to Lion Jimmie Giles and his family on the loss of Betty, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.  Lion Jimmie, your love for and dedication to Betty through the good and not so good times have been an inspiration to us all.  Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Opening:  Lion Paul Little thanked God for His many blessings and asked him to be with those in need, particularly Lion Jimmie Giles and his family.  Lion Bryan Self led the First Verse of America with Lion Gabby Garbarino playing the cymbals.  Lion Buddy Morehead led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Visitors:  Mrs. Gaye Garbarino was the guest of her husband, Lion Gabby Garbarino.  Mrs. Rubye Davitt (who surprised us during the meeting--read on) was the guest of her husband, Lion Steve Davitt.

Remarks:  Lion President Max Lipscomb reminded the club that the USA-Canada Forum will be held in Fort Worth September 27-28.  Lion Bryan Self, Chicken Charbroil Chairman, asked the club to consider raising the price of charbroil tickets to $6.  It has been many years since the price has changed, and expenses continue to go up.  Since there was a quorum of Board members present, they were asked to vote on a price increase.  The increase passed unanimously.

Tailtwisting:  Latecomers Lions Scott Harkey, Jim Peck, and Oscar Smith were fined for their tardiness.  Lion Gabby Garbarino, Lion TT Archambeau’s pot person, was fined for referring to his spouse as his “wife” not his “darling.”  Lion Charles Smith  had to drop some coins into the pot for his refusal to play the cymbals for Lion Bryan.  Tailtwister Archambeau continued last week’s quiz on Southern Language—even though there were several Lions questioning whether someone from Michigan could really pronounce the words!  Getting a chance to test their Southern knowledge—many of whom flunked—were Lions Bud Byrd, Paul Little, Hubert Gleason, Gene Bacon, Bryan Self, Jim Peck, Robert and Patricia Schwartz, Scott Harkey,  Buddy Morehead, Charles Smith and Oscar Smith.  Lion TT must have made more than his quota today since he was the only show in town.  There was no program.

Before the meeting adjourned, Membership Chairman, Lion Bryan Self, announced that he had just received an application for membership from Mrs. Rubye Davitt who has been our regular visitor lately.  The club unanimously accepted Mrs. Rubye as the newest North Shreveport Lion.  Welcome!

Ticket Drawings:  $5.00 red ticket winners were Lions Charles Smith and Charlyne Langton.  There were 21 members and 2 guests in attendance.  Lions Russ Peterson’s name was drawn for the attendance prize, but he was not present.  The Blue Ticket was drawn by “double lucky” Lion Charlyne who drew the ace of clubs.  The pot is getting bigger—$200.
