Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Archambeau had PDG Paul Little holding the pot.  Lion President Reeks was fined for being a little late starting the meeting.  However, some came in after 12:00 noon and were fined even though the bell had not yet been rung: Lions Kevin Anderson, Patricia Schwartz, Alan Yokem, Pete Copes.  Then, he went into Shreveport-Bossier Trivia questions.  It was lots of fun with lots of hard questions.  Lion Scott gave a chicken-related joke/story.  We concluded the session by singing Happy Birthday to Lion PDG Bryan Self.

PROGRAM: Lion Ed Ball introduced the City of Shreveport’s CAO Ken Antee.  Ken explained the process of AdValorem taxes and what is going on there with the recent re-assessment by the Assessor.  He gave an update on the new convention center and it is moving on schedule to open January of 2006.  Several events have already engaged the facility.  Lots of issues are being constantly looked at to ensure “no financial woes” for the facility.  The time line for the building and its planned hotel is looking good.  In 5 years, $170 Million has been spent by Mayor Hightower’s administration for updating and adding to the infrastructural needs – water, sewer, roads, etc.  Lion Hubert inquired as to the plans for the development of Cross Bayou – hopefully, a green space and park.  Several other good questions were asked of members – who are now better informed than those who could not be here today.
