SPEAKER FOR
10/03/02 IS KSLA’S LONG-TIME SPORTSCASTER: BOB GRIFFIN
September
26, 2002
Opening: Lion President Max Lipscomb asked Lion Chaplain Jim
Peck to give the prayer with special remembrance for the family of Lion
Walter Pipes who passed away on Sunday morning. Lion Alan Yokem flawlessly led everyone in the Pledge of
Allegiance. Lion Bud Byrd led
the group in the First Verse with Lion Paul Little playing the cymbals
and Lion Robbie Raiford playing the piano.
Guests: We had only one guest – the speaker -- second week in a row without a guest. 27 members were in attendance.
Remarks: Lion President Max gave information on upcoming 8-L Fall
Conference will be held October 11th and 12th at the Isle
of Capri Hotel in Bossier City – Call Max (425-4444) for more
information; (2) South Shreveport will be having a chicken charbroil October 18
& 19 at Sam’s Wholesale Club. Lion
Bryan Self – Chicken Charbroil Chairperson, asked members to sell those
tickets and started making detail assignments for the cooking and packaging
days. See Lion Bryan Self for
tickets – oh yeah, on the multi-sales-tickets, be sure to include the
information on the right side on the left side also – such as # of dinners and
who it is. Lion Robert Schwartz
challenged the club to get on-board and help North Shreveport to lead the rest
of the state on the Cub Sight Program – most everyone in attendance agreed and
immediately started volunteering.
Tailtwisting: Tailtwister Lion Bill Archambeau got a few for lateness
and a few for not yet having sold any chicken charbroil tickets and that
mean-ole potboy (Lion Gabby Garbarino) was stiffing everyone for general
purpose just for the TT’s reading of some things mom taught us. Next TT did some good trivia..TT didn’t have
much time since the remarks by Bryan and Robert were so long – good job guys!
Program: Lion Stuart Reeks presented Mr. Jim McClelland. Jim is a local CPA and is married with
three children. He was here today to
provide information on bone marrow donations.
He accomplished four things for us to remember: (1) Hear some touching
stories; (2) How and why to become a bone marrow donor; (3) Louisiana resources
for bone marrow donations (LSU Health and Sciences Center-Shreveport); and (4)
Just learn about some neat-special kids…. Jim told us about his son Loren who
was diagnosed early with a rare case of Hurler Syndrome a disease
requiring a badly needed a bone marrow transplant. He has written a book: Cookin’ At Cook is a
life-changing inspirational book based on Loren’s first bone marrow
transplant. You can get your copy at http://www.crystalisland.com/ or you
can order it through your favorite bookstore.
The ISBN is 1588515729…. Jim’s core beliefs: (1) God created every human
being for a purpose; (2) God’s purpose in our lives will be accomplished, so we
might as well accept His will and do what we can to cooperate with Him; (3) My
purpose is to do my very best to help make other peoples’ lives better; (4)
Being somewhat selfish at times, I often fail at my prime purpose. It’s a good thing God is really, really,
really patient!!!! For more
information, contact Jim via any of the following: Office: 318.221.3615; Cell:
318.458.2179; Home: 318.965.3099; Fax: 318.965.1733 or 318.543.0217; email: Jim McClelland (jkm@crystalisland.com).
If you weren’t at the meeting today, look for some of the handouts that
Jim left for the club – it is full of very important information and lots of
inspirational information. Jim thanks
God for giving man resources to heal and the knowledge to know how to heal
someone. A few questions were asked and
answered and we appreciate Stu bringing Jim to give his
message. Another link: Bone
Marrow information
