Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Jim Peck; Pledge: Lion Bryan Self; Leading the song was Lion Robert Schwartz with Lion Jimmie Giles sounding the cymbals and Lion Robbie Raiford on the electric piano.

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau fined all who failed to see his picture in the newspaper. He fined Lion Jimmie for reciting the pledge too fast.  Lion Gary Kennedy was allowed an opportunity to tell some jokes, then, onto trivia.

 

Program:  Lion Oscar Smith introduced the speaker, Mr. Eddie Rivera with Soldiers of Compassion Outreach.  He discussed mentoring program to where they use volunteers to mentor troubled kids.  It takes about three hours a month for the volunteers.  He cited many crime statistics in which Louisiana ranked at the top or near the top in per capita crime.  He stated that mentors must pass a background check and that kids who don’t want to participate in the program are not kept in the program.

 

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Scott Harkey and Hubert Gleason.

 

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Jerry Paige failed to draw the Queen of Hearts – the pot was $215.

 

Attendance Prize: Lion Chuck Strickland was not present to collect.

 

MAJOR PROJECTS: Louisiana Lions Childrens’ Camp, LSU Lions’ Eye Foundation, Northwest Louisiana Eye Bank, Louisiana Association for the Blind, Northwood High School Leo Club, Scholarships for Northwood and Green Oaks High Schools
