Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nation’s Safety”

October 17, 2002

Opening:  President Max Lipscomb called the meeting to order.  He asked Lion Chaplain Jim Peck to give the Blessing.  Lion

Harold Wright led us in the Pledge - and he did it without error.  Lion Robert Schwartz swayed the baton for the First Verse whileLion Paul Little played the cymbals.

Visitors:  The only visitor today was our speaker and there were 23 club members in attendance.

Remarks:  Lion Bryan Self gave thanks to all members who participated in any way.  He asked that the money be forwarded to him as quickly as possible.  Some discussion ensued concerning there were no donuts for the packaging day.  Members gave lots of positive comments in attendance today--all hands involved did a great job!  Other business: Lion Gene Bacon is looking for folks todo our annual Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army.

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau got three folks for being late.  With Lion Paul Little serving as the potboy, many fines were collected.  The TT pulled up some carefully scripted Who Wants to Be a Millionaire questions.  He got lots of fines and lots of humor and lots of laughter.  Lion Scott Harkey skated through what would have been very embarrassing if he'd not known the answer; it was the question concerning "What state is named for a king?"  If you don't know the answer, don't tell anyone.

Program:  Lion Ed Ball presented our program.  Mr. Richard Stewart from the Caddo 9-1-1 Center.  Richard is the database manager at the Center.  9-1-1 calls have gone from 250 to 700 per day over the years since it started in 1989.  Non-emergency phone calls also makeup a large part of the 9-1-1's staff.  Comments from the floor arose concerning the financing of the Center and an explanation was given and discussed.  The 9-1-1 chain now has an updated 800 Mhz trunking system to allow better communications between the various emergency agencies responding to a major incident - this is one of the many things the $1.00per month on residential phones and $2.00 business lines assessments.  FYI - incoming phone calls using 9-1-1 are received by the Shreveport Fire Department.  After the call-taker screens the call, they one-touch button transfer the call to the appropriate agency: Caddo Sheriff's Office, Shreveport Police or Fire, Caddo Fire Districts. Richard left us with some litter bags and other information about 9-1-1------- a great, informative program!!!!!!!

Ticket Drawings:  $5.00 red ticket winners were Lions Steve Davitt and Paul Little.  The blue ticket winner was (woo, woo, woo) Lion  Gloria Kennedy.

Attendance Prize:  Lion Jerry Paige would have received the attendance prize - for the second consecutive week.
