Opening: President Max Lipscomb called the meeting to order. Lion Chaplain Jim Peck thanked God for his
many blessings and asked him to be with those of us who are ill, Mentioning Lion Charlie Smithe and his bride,
Francine. PDG Bud Byrd led us in the Pledge and then later sounded out with the cymbals when PDG Harold
Wright led us in the first verse of America. And did he surprise members of the audience with his expertise.
Visitors: Lion Bill Spockerman introduced Pat Gregory as his guest. Welcome and we hope you come again
Pat.
Remarks: Lion PDG Bud Byrd ask the club to write a letter to the Northwest Louisiana Lions Eye Bank
endorsing him as a member of their Board of Directors. Lion President Lipscomb directed our Recording
Secretary, Lion Gloria Kennedy to write said letter.
Lion President Max read a letter from Shreveport Hospice announcing the opening of a training class for anyone
who wishes to learn more about this program. Shreveport Hospice does such positive work with the ill and it
would be a great class for any of us to take. Contact Lion Max Lipscomb if you are interested.
Other Notes: Lion Past President will be taking names for those of us who will be willing and happy to ring the
bells for The Salvation Army this year.
Tailtwisting: Lion TT Bill Archambeau fined several members for being late. He then proceeded to ask several
long and very amusing questions. Some were about famous sportmen & baseball players. Lion Bill and several
other members were surprised that the ladies could answer questons about sports. Several fines were collected
as always it was a good time had by all.
Program: Lion PDG2 Paul Little (dressed to the nines) introduced our speaker for the day, Mrs. Sandra A
Brown. Mrs. Brown is the President of the Shreveport - Bossier Convention and Tourism Bureau. Mrs.
Brown has been a member of the BOD since May 1994 and was elected president in 2000. She told us of all
the changes in Shreveport/Bossier City that is drawing tourist to this area. Shreveport is the # 2 tourist
destination in Louisiana. New Orleans is first but she stated that the two areas are so different and we in this
part of the state draw a different type of tourist. She said we should be proud of the downtown area especially
the Red River District. If you have not visited that part of town, you really should. It is an interesting and "neat"
place to go. Mrs. Brown also brought a handout that gave us details of the work of the Convention and Tourist
Bureau. Very interesting program. Thank you Stacy and we welcome you back soon.
Ticket Drawings: $5.00 red ticket winners were our Guest Speaker and a Lion who shall remain anonomyous
because we failed to get the name down on paper. The blue ticket winner was Lion PP Gene Bacon but the
best she could do was to draw the 8 of diamonds. The Queen's pot is really growing.
Attendance Prize: Lion Craig Kennedy's name was drawn for the attendance prize but he left just moments
before the drawing. He had a good excuse for leaving, he had to take Lion Gloria Kennedy to a doctor's
appointment.
Lion Gloria Kennedy really thanks Retired Editor of The Yellow Rag for coming out of retirement for the day to
take notes for her. I appreciate you Lion Gene.
