BOARD
MEETING: WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 2002
Opening: President Max Lipscomb called
the meeting to order. Lion Charlie Smith gave the Blessing. Lion Gabby Garbarino
led us in the Pledge – and he did not get fined. Lion Paul Little
waved the baton for the First Verse while Lion Gabby
Garbarino played the cymbals and Lion Robbie
on the piano.
Visitors: There
were no visitors (other than the speaker).
There were 20 members present.
Remarks: Lion Max remarked
about our loss of Lion Charlyne Langton earlier in the week – the
funeral was Wednesday at Hillcrest Cemetery near Haughton. We will all miss Charlyne who was a
very active and dedicated member in all we do. (Max ordered flowers and will
share the bill for members who care to contribute above and beyond the Memorial
Fund – thanks Max)
Lion
Paul Little came in with some of those really dark glasses – cataract
surgery – doing great but the lights really seemed bright today!!!
The club voted today to the
following holiday schedule:
Thursday, December 19th
– Annual Christmas Party
Thursday, December 26th
– No meeting
Thursday, January 2nd
– Yes, meetings will resume on 1/2/03
Lion Bryan Self revised his net earnings
for the chicken charbroil to more than $6,000 (applause). Lion Max noted that the next Zone 1-A
meeting will be at Willis-Knighton’s Community Center on November 19th
at 6:30 p.m…. Lion Hubert Gleason
announced that next Thursday – November 14th is the last day to
turn-in your nut and candy order.
Lion Craig Kennedy suggested that referral
forms to the Eye Foundation be more readily accessible to club members through
the President and Secretary. Note:
Lion Craig Kennedy had to leave a meeting early one day to carry Lion
Gloria to the doctor; Craig’s name was drawn for the attendance
prize after he left -- he is stumping to garnish support to still collect the
money – no one would make a motion.
Lion Larry LaBorde sent over 1,000 pairs of eye
glasses to the collection center in Midland,
Texas. Say “thanks” to folks at SAIA
Trucking – they carried them over there for us….Lion Robert Schwartz has
placed the Cub Sight program on temporary “hold” – the cameras have been sent
out for re-configuring for the supply film – it shouldn’t be long that we’re
down.
Lion Mike Middleton thanked Lions for their
support of our tax issues and he noted Lion John Manno’s printing
business as the recipient of the first annual Mayor’s Appreciation Award
from
Shreveport Green. The award was
presented as a surprise by Mayor Hightower at Wednesday’s Shreveport
Green Annual Award Luncheon. Lion
Sheriff Prator was awarded a special recognition plaque for always being
there to answer the needs of Shreveport Green – Congratulations from the club
to both of you for your commitment to the community.
Tailtwisting: Lion TT Bill Archambeau started by “getting” Lion Craig concerning
his taking-up some TT time…then, several were fined for being late… then,
trivia (or something???) related questions.
Program: Lion Bill Spickerman presented our program. Bill introduced
Ms. Amanda Verret. Amanda
is the Executive Director of Gingerbread House – Bossier / Caddo Children’s
Advocacy Center. She shared about our
community’s response to the problem of child abuse and how we can take an
active part in protecting children. For
