Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Charlie Smith; Pledge: Lion Harold Wright; Leading the song was Lion Bud Byrd.

PLEASE FULFILL YOUR COMMITMENT TO YOUR CLUB AND LIONISM -- ATTEND YOUR MEETINGS!

NOTES/Remarks:

Tailtwisting:  Fined late comers as well as Lion Wright for leaving the guest out of the pledge.  He also fined Lion Bud Byrd for poor leadership of the song.  Lion President Ball added that there should be song leading practice after the board meeting on Wednesday.  Lion Gloria announced that Lion Patricia has not showed up with Lion Yokem’s birthday dollar.  It was suspected that Lion Patricia went on a shopping spree.  Soon thereafter Lion Patricia arrived to defend herself against the allegation.

Program:  Lion Gloria Kennedy introduced PDG Bob Eichhorn, president of the Eye Foundation.  He gave some impressive statistics concerning the number of patients served by the Foundation.  He also said that about 14% of Lions Club funding comes from District 8-L.  He also noted that the North Shreveport Lions Club is one of the biggest contributors to the Eye Foundation from District 8-L.  He presented Lion President Ed Ball with some statistics showing the amount of contributions received from the different Lions Clubs.  Lion Ed will make those available to any Club member who wishes to review them.

Bob stated he has made an effort to increase communication between the Foundation and the Lions Clubs.  Toward this end he has started a newsletter.  He is also been trying to increase the satellite clinics which includes an effort to get one at LSUMC in Shreveport.

He also stated the Corvette raffle has not only raised money but has increased awareness in the public about the existence of the Foundation.  He also mentioned a new raffle which is called the “Richard Petty Experience.”  The winner will receive 8 laps in a NASCAR vehicle.  All of these raffles can be entered by going to the Eye Foundation’s website.  There will also be a wine tasting fundraiser at the Antique Car Museum in Shreveport on February 6, 2004.

He added that there have also been some changes administratively.  They have revamped the accounting system as well as laying off some of the people who were working at the Foundation but were not being productive.

Bob then thanked the NSLC for our support and ask that we continue to support the Foundation and get the word out about the different raffles.
