Opening:  Presiding: President Lion Ed Ball; Prayer: Lion Charlie Smith; Pledge: Lion Alan Yokem; Leading the song was Lion Bill Archambeau with Lion Robbie Raiford on the piano and Lion Jimmie Giles sounding the cymbals.  Special prayers: Lions Gene Bacon, Bob Allen and Pete Copes’ daughter.

 

Upcoming programs:  Next week is the annual Christmas Party for the Club.  Please let Mike Middleton know exactly how many people you will be paying for.  Call anytime to 681.0630 and leave a message.  Please be prepared to pay for the number of people you commit to; even if you do not show-up.  The cost is $10.00 per person.

            A reception is being planned for March 21st at the State Exhibit Museum.  The guest is will be the granddaughter of Helen Keller.  Please plan to attend and show our appreciation for her traveling to Shreveport.  More details available later.

 

Visitors: Lion Oscar Smith brought with him today Ms. Betty Butler, Alisha Thompson and Anna Holt.

BOARD MEETING NEXT WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 17, 2003,

Tailtwisting:  Lion TT Bill Archambeau had Lion Bud Byrd passing the pot.  We sang “Happy B.D.” to Lion Alan Yokem and guest, Alisha Thompson.  Late: Lion Kevin Anderson.  There was lots and lots of time for Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  Lion Charlie Smith paid his commission for winning last week’s attendance prize.  Congratulations to Lion and Mrs. Alan Yokem – twins on the way.

 

Program:  Lion Vice-President Oscar Smith introduced Ms. Betty Butler with Project Return, a local prison-after program working to reduce the recidivism of people returning to jail.   It works to improve one’s character and citizenship in our community.  Education and employability is the key.  Joining Ms. Butler at the head table was a graduate of the program, Ms. Alisha Thompson.  Over 1,800 people have graduated from the program to date.  In specific wording of their Mission Statement: “The mission of Shreveport-Bossier Project Return is to reduce recidivism by providing a comprehensive program of counseling; education and job readiness to recently released prisoners”.  The program is available to anyone with a felony record.  Ms. Thompson then explained her participation in the program and how she is working hard to turn her life around.

 

Ticket Drawings: The red ticket winners were: Lions Ed Stevenson and Robbie Raiford.

 

BLUE TICKET:  Lion Alan Yokem failed to draw the Queen of Hearts – nearing $300 next week.

 

Attendance Prize: Lion Harold Wright was not present to collect the pot.

 

MAJOR PROJECTS: Louisiana Lions Childrens’ Camp, LSU Lions’ Eye Foundation, Northwest Louisiana Eye Bank, Louisiana Association for the Blind, Northwood High School Leo Club, Scholarships for Northwood and Green Oaks High Schools
